CAFOD is the official overseas aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales, and part of Caritas Internationalis, the international Catholic network of development and relief agencies. CAFOD works with and through over 450 national partners in over 35 countries worldwide and has 5,300 volunteers working across the UK. CAFOD is a leading agency in localisation; signatory to the Grand Bargain and a key actor in Charter4Change. Partner and community capacity strengthening is a key component of CAFOD’s work. CAFOD plays a key role within the UK and international humanitarian community working closely with other agencies, especially the START Network, Disaster Emergencies Committee (DEC), Islamic Relief and is also a member of ALNAP and ICVA. CAFOD has worked closely with the CHS Alliance on the development of the Core Humanitarian Standards and was one of the first organisations to obtain CHS certification. CAFOD is a founding member of the START network.

Role in the TEACH project:

As a partnership organisation CAFOD’s ways of working embody locally-led humanitarian response. CAFOD is a member of the consortium and is taking a lead role in the implementation of Specific Objective 2, together with Trocaire and Caritas Europa. CAFOD is working closely with the other consortium partners in the design, monitoring, implementation and management of the project. CAFOD will actively contribute to reporting and promote sharing of experiences and learning within the consortium.
