“Volunteering can change lives”

What does it mean to be a volunteer in a foreign country and how can you become an international volunteer? – these questions were answered by the participants of the Caravan for Volunteering and Humanitarian Assistance held in Oradea on May 14th, 2019. Caritas Romania Confederation in partnership with Caritas Eparhial Oradea and Caritas Catolica Oradea organized an event to inform about the European Union’s initiative “EU Volunteers for Humanitarian Aid” and the humanitarian aid programs implemented by Caritas Romania .
Oana Perju and Tudor Baciu, two former volunteers, shared their experience as volunteers in India and Africa. Both have emphasized that volunteering is not only about helping the others, but volunteering has also positively changed their lives.
Over 75 participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with a photo exhibition on humanitarian assistance and humanitarian crises in the world. At the end, the visitors were invited to watch the movie “Hotel Rwanda” which shows the genocide in Rwanda since 1994, where nearly a million people were killed, and the desperate attempts of a man to save as many human lives as possible.
“We have already been to a brief volunteer in Turkey,” explained a participant at the end of the event, “and I am even interested in the future to volunteer in humanitarian assistance.”
